Runnihagen Dementia Care Home

A dementia care home in a health promoting neighborhood

The Runnihagen Care home is a specifically designed facility for elderly people with dementia who are in need of special care and attention. The 2-story facility provides 30 two-room housing units, shared facilities and staff facilities.

The Runnihagen Care home is the first phase of a comprehensive health driven urban neighborhood – the Runnivegen Health Community. The development of the strategic masterplan has been based on demographic analysis and research, with the ambition of creating a residential quarter that offers a diverse mix of housing typologies and care services within a varied living environment accommodating residents across multiple generations with varying needs.

The care home aims to support residents’ independence through strategic design. A clear spatial orientation, familiar surroundings, and functional living spaces that promote residents’ autonomy and comfort are some of the key architectural considerations.

Located centrally within the health driven neighborhood, the care homes will offer direct access to both sheltered and shared recreational areas and the future community square. In this way the residents will be integrated with the surrounding urban environment and have potential social interactions with the rest of the neighborhood.

The building design is inspired by local residential housing and materials are selected to create a sense of home and an inviting atmosphere.
