The exhibition „Aging Together– Architectural
Approaches for the Elderly“ at the auau Gallery in Hamburg explored innovative design strategies that facilitate communal living for the elderly.
As populations age and more individuals seek independent yet supported lifestyles, architecture
plays a crucial role in shaping spaces that cater to these
needs. This exhibition presented diverse architectural
models that respond to the increasing demand for
living environments fostering social interaction, mutual
support, and shared responsibilities among the
residents.
The purpose was to prompt critical reflection on how architecture can support a dignified, independent, and connected life in old age. A highly relevant topic also in Hamburg – by 2040, the population over 64-year-olds in Hamburg will have grown by 23 percent.
NORD Architects and 3RW arkitekter’s project Furuset Hageby Dementia Village was part of the exhibition as an example of how innovative design strategies can facilitate communal living for older people with dementia.
