Aarhus School of Architecture
NORD Architects has been the client advisor for The Danish Building and Property Agency in connection with the new architecture school in Aarhus, Denmark. The project emerged through a process in which NORD Architects, involving the school’s users, developed a competition program that both outlined the vision for the future school and the technical requirements for the building. The goal was a flexible and robust building with a raw and open structure, allowing new teaching methods and workshop activities to flourish for many years to come.
As part of the project, NORD Architects assisted The Danish Building and Property Agency in developing a new procurement and collaboration model called ‘New Partnering’. This procurement model supports strong collaboration among the various stakeholders in the project, by early involvement of all parties’ knowledge and skills. An expected outcome of the model is that time and budget constraints are met, and the completed building meets the quality expectations and requirements set at the beginning of the project.

Office building in wood (WoodHub)
NORD Architects are client advisors for The Danish Building and Property Agency in connection with the construction of Denmark’s first public office building built in wood. The project is being constructed with load-bearing wooden structures, resulting in a significant CO2 benefit. NORD Architects has provided guidance to the building agency from the initial phases of the project and will continue to oversee the construction until its completion. At the beginning of the project, we assisted the client with risk assessment, preliminary design proposals and procurement strategy.
The building can accommodate 1,600 employees and will house the majority of the state institutions that are already located in Odense, Denmark, including the Danish Tax Agency, Environment Agency and Social Agency. The project requirements have a strong emphasis on sustainability and ensuring high functionality, where the individual rental spaces work well with the shared facilities in the building. The building is a test project for the new voluntary sustainability goals.

Slaughterhouse site in Faaborg
NORD Architects has advised Faaborg-Midtfyn Municipality in connection with the transformation of the former Tulip building and slaughterhouse site at Faaborg Harbor. The vision for the harbor is to convert the space into the city’s new cultural and gastronomic hub – a centre for experience-based economy that aims to strengthen Faaborg’s communities and tourism in the region.
NORD Architects has explored the potential for development in a concept proposal, which forms the basis for grant applications and further development work. The transformation of the area draws upon its historical industrial character in a comprehensive approach that connects the harbor with the Tulip building as a new focal point for life and activity.
The concept proposal outlines the potentials and interior possibilities of the Tulip building, suggesting how the building and its surrounding areas can provide a flexible frameworks that can adapt over time. The proposal shows how expansion plans can coexist with temporary and permanent activities such as maritime and gastronomic workshops, community events, and pop-ups.
