The Children’s Home of the Future

A home away from home

The Children’s Home of the Future was a development of the existing orphanage Dyrehaven in Kerteminde, Denmark.

The vision and concept was developed after a thorough user-involvement process with all users of the facility – children, parents and employees.

The children described both which feelings they wanted their home to evoke as well as which concrete functions they desired. It was important that the home made them proud and gave them as sense of belonging and community. They highlighted that having functionalities that others didn’t would make them feel more proud of living there. They also wanted a degree of influence and personalisation on their surroundings.
