The Danish Maritime Authority

Transformation from glass workshop to a new workplace of 200 staff

A former glass workshop in Korsør, Denmark was transformed into a modern office for activity-based work with about 200 public employees. Nord Architects has in that connection carried out a proposal for the refurbishment- and interior project for the transformation that focused on creating a diverse work environment with a great deal of flexibility, which highlights the brand and identity of The Danish Maritime Authority.

The proposal was developed in close collaboration with the users so the organisations strong opinions to their work environment and identity also became apart of the architecture and interior decisions. The interior concept is flexible for any future changed in, or outside, the organization. The physical framework supports the organisational changes.

The concept works with flexibility based on the many variables in the office environment where the entire office building works as a space with flexible zones, niches, and spaces. In addition the flexibility is also prominent in the spaces that accommodate the various needs for work modes – such as spaces for concentration, feedback, touch down or interaction.

Openness and visibility, also across floors, are an integrated design parameter to create a strong and inclusive shared work environment. A healthy indoor climate will pay attention to daylight, acoustics, social meeting points and a dynamic workflow that will ensure that the workers feel part of a team, as well as being able to step into a more private zone.
